Rosita was once a booming silver mining town back in the late 1800s with over 400 buildings consisting of log cabins, hotels, blacksmith shops and a post office, which is now a local restaurant. Over 1000 people lived in Rosita at one time mostly working in the Humboldt and Pocahantas mines. After the boom and the silver ore veins disappeared, Rosita turned into a ghost town, which then was used for the filming of several movies. The name Rosita is Spanish for little rose. If you ever make it to Rosita, you should check out the Rosita Historical grave yard.
